DELL DCIP v3.0 cannot create ConfigMgr driver package

by Thomas Forsmark Sørensen 7. November 2012 12:11

Today I had a strange problem when I was trying to use DELL Dell Client Integration Pack (DCIP) v3.0 to import DELL driver cab files into ConfigMgr 2012.

No matter which Dell driver CAB i was trying to import as a driver package, they all fail with the message that: 'Failed to create Driver Package in ConfigMgr'. No additional info was shown on the screen.

I looked in the ConfigMgr console log file SmsAdminUI.log in the “%programfiles%\Microsoft Configuration Manager\AdminConsole\AdminUILog” folder.

In mine log file it says something about that the “SMS provider doesn't have read, write or delete permission to the package source path".

During the import process I had entered a destination directory for the driver package source. That was the path the the driver importer was complaining about in the log file.

The solution:

On the driver package source the "Authenticated users" had "Modify Rights". I changed that to "Full Rights" and then the DCIP could import the driver CAB files without any problems.
